Calgary
Playground fun, pie throwing, decadent desserts and shaved heads!
All to support Calgary kids!

PlaygroundAn anonymous donor gave a piece of playground equipment to Kids Help Phone requesting the profits of the sale of the climber be donated to the Walk for Kids Help Phone. Thanks to the generosity of Qualico, who purchased the climber from Kids Help Phone for $7500, children in a Calgary community will have an additional piece of playground equipment to climb and many other children will continue to get professional help from Kids Help Phone counsellors! Thank you to these supporters who clearly demonstrated their great commitment to the physical and emotional health of children and youth in our community!!

Birthday DonationJessica Weale, the 13 year-old daughter of Calgary G4S Manager Jonathan Weale, decided this year that instead of accepting birthday presents from her family and friends, she would ask them to make donations to Kids Help Phone. Jessica raised over $300 for the Walk at her birthday party and presented it to us on Walk Day!

PIe in faceBell employees in Calgary, like Derek in the picture to the left, held a “pie in the face” fundraiser which raised $942! The only way to get out of having a pie in your face was to “buy out” of it, and then other employees had the option of ‘buying you back in”! One of the big pie in the face fundraisers was Steve Spurgeon.  He was bid in at $121, bought out at $121 and then agreed to be re-bought in at $150. Total for him alone was $392. But Cameron Green, rose to the challenge and went right over the top on behalf of kids, by not only taking a pie in the face, but also shaving his head! Cam raised $2000 for Kids Help Phone - and he likes the new look!

Edmonton
Sierra Systems played a full house with their fundraising!

Parmalat TentDid you know that the Sierra Systems Walk team helped raise nearly one third of the total funds for the Edmonton walk site?! “Team Sierra”, led by Nelson Pacheco and Chris Lavin held some very successful events including an office Silent Auction and a Poker Tournament, with organizational help from Sierra Systems employee, Dennis Cleaver and other Edmonton Chapter Volunteers, Michael Lohner and Wanda Corcoran, which drew 45 participants this year, compared to 23 from last year! Thank you to this very enthusiastic and engaged team! We can always count on you to be there for kids in your community!

Fort McMurray
When a community comes together, it makes a difference

On May 2nd, 2010 the community in Fort McMurray came out to support Kids Help Phone at Borealis Park. There’s always a wonderful spirit of local support and walkers, volunteers and committee organizers had a great day! We continue to be in awe of the fantastic support from BMO Financial Group employees and their continued passion and support. See you all next year in 2011!

Grande Prairie
Walking and talking to help more and more kids

This year, the community of Grande Prairie came out to support Kids Help Phone at Muskoseepi Park and raised a fantastic $4,600! Special guests, walkers and volunteers had a really great day and had people walking and talking about why Kids Help Phone is so important. And one special group that always makes this event a huge success are the fantastic Westjetters in Grande Prairie who go above and beyond with their help and support! Thanks everyone, you’re all amazing!

Lethbridge
Great Support flows like “The River” (107.7)

Lethbridge TentRadio station, The River 107.7 were our stars in Lethbridge this year; not only did they give our local Chapter Volunteers some airtime to promote the walk, but they also ran our Walk ads, emceed the event, lead the walk warm-up; helped to bring 20 new walkers to the event AND raised over $3000! WOW!

Medicine Hat
Shooting for a fundraising “goal.” Literally!

Smiles of the dayMayor Norm Boucher agreed to come to the Walk, and 'tend the event he did! He geared up in FULL goalie equipment and goal tended shots from citizens in Medicine Hat that made a donation. He was a lot of fun and the kids especially enjoyed it. The support from the government in Medicine Hat has always been unwavering, not only in terms of participation, but with strong statements about the importance of Kids Help Phone.

Kids are so important to Kids Help Phone and it’s amazing to hear about young fundraisers like Jayda Steele. Jayda is a nine year old girl who raised $276 on her own! In tow, she had her mom, a friend of her mom’s, her older sister and her sister's friend. Way to go, Jayda!!

Red Deer
Mayor Flewweling inspired by resourceful young fundraiser

Mayor of Red DeerWhen a 10 year-old from Red Deer sets her mind to something, there’s no holding her back! Not only did she go door-to-door route, and asked for support from neighbours and friends, but she also made a formal presentation to her mom’s workplace on why they should support her fundraising efforts on behalf of the Walk for Kids Help Phone. $730 later, her efforts were acknowledged publicly during the Walk where she met government officials. The Mayor of Red Deer, Morris Flewweling, was so impressed with our young fundraiser that he shared the duty of cutting the start line’s ribbon with her!
